TikTok Adds Avatars Similar to Apple’s Memoji

TikTok users can now animate themselves with the app’s latest feature, TikTok Avatars, the short-form video platform said Tuesday. The new feature is similar to Apple’s Memoji, which let you personalize your avatar, send your avatar as a sticker and record videos as your avatar to send to friends.

“We’re excited to launch the first version of TikTok Avatars globally and will continue to improve and innovate to make sure the experience is truly representative of all who are on TikTok,” the company said in a statement.

Users can show off their individuality by choosing different hairstyles, piercings, accessories and more for their avatars. TikTok also said it is working with its Creative Diversity Collective to be more inclusive and representative of the TikTok community.

“From outfits to skin tones and hair color down to texture, building inclusive features and experiences remains our priority,” the company said. “We’ll continue to listen to our community and look to creators for feedback at every step of its development.”

TikTok Avatars are available to all TikTok users. The feature can be found in the effects section of the app by searching for the Avatar effect. Once you’ve made your avatar, you can start recording and sharing videos.
